All our 4, 8, 9 and 16 channel digital video recorders feature motion detection as an option for the user. This is an important feature because not only does it save the user time as they only need to view motion activated events but because a camera can be given a higher recording frame rate upon alarm if other cameras not sensing motion are not recording.
The process is easy, the dvr examines pixels presented by the cameras. Once there is pixel change, recording begins. A masking tool/abilty for the dvr is needed as it alows the user to select objects or areas of the security camera's view that might cause false motion detection triggers. A tree blowing in the wind might not be the motion you want detected, so being able to mask this area out of the detection area allows you to record the motion of a person close to the tree but not the tree.
Some dvrs or digital video recorders have motion detection as three levels, other have upto 100.
Be careful to mask fluorescent lighting fixtures as these are famous for causing false triggers. Many times we will get calls motion detection is way too sensitive and what we find if people just need to program each camera view. This usually eliminates false motion detection recording.
